This highly detailed traditional dot painting is from the Desert Wildflower Series by Grace Brown

For Aboriginal Australians, the Cockatoos are treated with great respect. They are acknowledged for their important part in the cycle of birth, death and rebirth of plants in the landscape. Cockatoos are invited to eat during feasting times when food is plentiful, and in turn they help to spread the seeds of native plants for next season.

In this way, the birds are linked with the sacredness of the seed and the continuous rebirth and fertility of the land.

Australia is blessed with thousands of species of wildflowers and an incredible diversity that is matched by few places in the world. The cockatoo loves the seeds in flowers and on trees and as they fly and land, they spread those seeds everywhere.

Did you know that Australia is home to over 24,000 species of weird and wonderful native plants? Well, it's true!

Western Australia alone has more than 12,000 species of native wildflowers, more than 60% of which can only be found here and nowhere else on earth.

This painting is based on the time Grace has spent in the Australian desert.

In silence, Grace loves to feel the breeze on her face while gazing at all the many different clumps of wildflowers swaying gracefully in the breeze, while watching the sun go down and the cockatoo's playing and flying together, she loves the wide open spaces of our land.
