BIRRARUNG - A highly detailed dot painting by Grace Brown

Traditionally known as the Birrarung, meaning 'rivers of mist', the river was once rich with fish, eels and birds' eggs, making it a popular meeting point for Aboriginal people. Red gum trees on the banks of the Birrarung were used to build canoes, allowing men to fish and travel down the river. Aboriginal people of the Kulin nations believe the Birrarung was carved into the landscape by the ancestral creater, Bunjil, the wedge-tailed eagle, providing food and protection for Aboriginal groups throughout the seasons.

In most cultures around the world, the wildflower represents joy.

Did you know that Australia is home to over 24,000 species of weird and wonderful native plants! Well, it's true.

Western Australia alone has more than 12,000 species of native wildflowers, more than 60% of which can only be found here and nowhere else on earth.

The six-month flowering season begins in June in the Pilbara, Goldfields and along the Coral Coast. By September, it moves south and reaches Perth, finishing with a flurry in October and November throughout the South West.

This painting series by Grace was inspired to show that you are not alone and there is beauty all around you. We are all wildflowers.

In silence, Grace loves to feel the breeze on her face while gazing at all the many different clumps of flowers and trees swaying gracefully in the breeze, while watching the sun go down.
